Along with the MediaPad X1, Huawei also announced its MediaPad M1 tablet over at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona earlier. M1 is a slightly larger slab, with its 214.4 x 120.7 x 7.9 mm measurements and 329-gram weight. Due to its mid-range target, it has a less dense 800 x 1280 resolution IPS display, with a pixel density of just around 189PPI.
The consolation comes in the form of two front-firing stereo speakers, great for music video playback. It even supports 4G LTE, and the ability to make voice calls, just like the X1.
Sporting the same HiSilicon Kirin 910 SoC as the X1, it has a slightly slower 1.6 GHz quad-core CPU, the same Mali-450 GPU, and smaller 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. Internal storage can be bumped by another 32GB via microSD cards.
Both its camera are also scaled down to fit the mid-range market: a 5-megapixel rear-facing and just a 1-megapixel front-facing camera. The battery is huge though; it has a generous 4800mAh capacity, much larger than, say, the 2013 Nexus 7’s 3950mAh.
Huawei MediaPad M1 will ship in multiple countries in Q1 of 2014. No word on the pricing and availability in Malaysia just yet, but over in Europe, it’ll be going for 299 euros (~RM1351.29).
