Right after the Galaxy S5 unveiling, Samsung also announced its first fitness tracker, the Gear Fit, further expanding its reach into the wearable tech space. Gear Fit serves as a smaller alternative to the Gear 2 smartwatches, with the focus on health and fitness.
Measuring 23.4 x 57.4 x 11.95 mm, its interchangeable strap is significantly narrower than the Gear and is made out of a soft rubber material that is both durable and comfortable to wear during workouts. This in turn, resulted in a thin case with the whole device weighing just 27 grams.
Because of how it needs to wrap around the wrist tightly, the case is housing an ultra-wide-angle curved Super AMOLED display. At 1.84 inches, the 432 x 128 resolution panel (245PPI) has an aspect ratio of 3.38:1. Naturally this fitness tracker is IP67 dust and water resistant, able to withstand a 1 meter water immersion for up to 30 minutes.

To be expected, Gear Fit pairs with compatible Samsung devices via Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy. Notifications from calls, messages, social networks, and other apps, could then be relayed to the Fit. The touch display has media controller features to control music playback on the paired smartphone.
Just like Gear 2, the Fit has an embedded heart rate sensor at the back of the case that could actively measure your pulse during workouts. Match that with the accelerometer and gyroscope sensors, Gear Fit offers a range of fitness applications like pedometer, exercise monitoring (with real-time coaching), sleep tracker, stopwatch, and timer. All of these data is synced back to S Health, which unfortunately is only available on select Galaxy smartphones.
With a 210mAh battery capacity, it could last around 3-4 days of typical use, and up to 5 days of low usage. Pricing has yet to be announced, but Samsung Gear Fit will be launched globally in April 11th, 2014.
