Right after the Xperia Z2 was announced, Sony followed up with the unveiling of its Xperia Z2 Tablet. Touted to be “the world’s slimmest and lightest waterproof tablet”, the 10.1-inch display retains its 1200 x 1920 pixels with around 224PPI. It now has what Sony calls a “Live Color LED display” with a very wide color gamut, ensuring the most accurate of color outputs.

It is quite an achievement Sony was able to pull off in the Z2 Tablet. Retaining the same length and width (266 x 172 mm), it is able to shave off a few millimeters to not only be thinner (6.4mm), but also lighter (439g) than the iPad Air. All of this while in compliance with IP55 and IP58 waterproofing standard, and retaining the 6000mAh battery, same like its predecessor, Xperia Tablet Z.

With the same moniker, Z2 Tablet shares much of the same internals as its smartphone sibling. It runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) SoC, 2.3GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM. Storage can be expanded by another 64GB with a microSD card.

Xperia Z2 Tablet’s audio department is also now powered by four 3D ‘S-Force’ front-firing surround sound speakers, along with Sony’s ClearAudio+ technologies. Just like the smartphone, this tablet also has a noise cancelling feature that only works with the specially-bundled headsets.

The only hardware downgrade one could nitpick is its 8.1MP main camera, but tablets are not meant to be a great camera form factor anyway. The front-facing equivalent is a 2.2MP, both capable of taking 1080p videos.

Shipping with Android 4.4 KitKat, Sony Xperia Z2 is available from March onwards. Pricing and availability in Malaysian not yet announced.
